For golfers there are plenty of courses to choose from within 30 minutes. The Severiano Ballesteros-designed Alhaurín course is only ten minutes away, as is Lauro Golf, whilst the courses at Mijas (2), La Cala (2) are not much further. All tee-off times can be prebooked. Further details for golfers

Horse Riding is widely available in the area for beginners and experienced riders alike, whilst from December to April Winter Sports including ice skating, skiing and snow boarding are only two hours drive away in the Sierra Nevada.
For those who want to tour by car, Villa Las Palmeras is the perfect base, with guides provided on routes and places of interest, and a large collection of maps and guidebooks. You can never tire of exploring the spectacular and unspoiled country behind the Costa del Sol. Whilst the list of things to see is endless, favourite local trips include visits to Ronda (famed for the 500' deep El Tajo gorge), historic Antequera, the fabulous El Torcal National Park, the Ardales lakes and the Garganta del Chorro gorge. Rather further away are Archidona and Granada, whilst Gibraltar is always worth the two hour drive with its history, duty-free shopping, and spectacular views.
The beautiful scenery and national parks which surround Alhaurín are perfect for walking as is the warm and sunny climate of Southern Spain. However, to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the area a car is essential and we have a link to an excellent car hire comparison site on our home page. We would also advise against trying to walk in the middle of the day in high summer (July and August).

rk and Teleférico (10 minute cable car ride up the
mountain) are enjoyable days out and are both about 30 minutes away. There is
also the excellent Selwo safari park and many other nearby attractions including
Selwo Marina with dolphins, sea lions and penguins. Selwo offer a combined
adult ticket for the safari park, cable car and marina which is excellent value.
